UPDATE: CONTINUATION OF NIGHT WORKS: FOOTPATH REINSTATEMENT AND INSTALLATION OF A WATER MAIN ON SOUTH ROAD, BETWEEN HAWKER STREET AND MCINNES STREET – 14/11/2016 – 19/11/2016


As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be continuing the installation of a new water main and reinstatement of the footpath on the eastern side of South Road, between Hawker Street and McInnes Street. Crews will be working across various sites within the area to complete the works.

Following a re-assessment of the works involved, the times and traffic management arrangements for the water main installations have changed. Temporary closures of Hythe Street, Forster Street and Monmouth Street will be required during these works.

To minimise disturbance to peak hour traffic, and weather permitting, the works will take place at various times between 7pm and 6am from Monday 14 November to Friday 18 November 2016 (finishing 6am Saturday 19 November 2016).

Locations, times and key activities:

  • South Road between Hawker Street and McInnes Street – 7pm Monday 14 November to 6am Friday 18 November 2016
    • Reinstatement of the footpath
  • Intersection of South Road and Hythe Street – 7pm Monday 14 November to 6am Tuesday 15 November 2016 and 7pm Tuesday 15 November to 6am Wednesday 16 November 2016
    • Installation of a new water main
  • Intersection of South Road and Forster Street – 7pm Thursday 17 November to 6am Friday 18 November 2016
    • Installation of new water main
  • Intersection of South Road and Monmouth Street – 7pm Friday 18 November to 6am Saturday 19 November 2016
    • Installation of new water main

Equipment:

  • A vacuum truck, road saw, mobile crane, excavator, compaction equipment, trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works.
  • Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Traffic Management

  • Lane and speed restrictions on South Road will apply in the vicinity of the works.
  • The South Road intersections with Hythe Street, Forster Street and Monmouth Street will be temporarily closed during the specified times works are being undertaken at these locations.
  • These roads will be re-opened by 6am each morning after works are completed.
  • Signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions.
  • Pedestrian access on South Road will be maintained with the assistance of a traffic controller.

Works will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents however some noise can be expected.
