UPCOMING WORKS ON SOUTH ROAD BETWEEN ASHWIN PARADE / WEST THEBARTON ROAD AND SUSAN STREET, WITH TEMPORARY LOCAL ROAD CLOSURES – 13 – 30 APRIL 2018

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking major pavement and asphalt works on South Road between Ashwin Parade / West Thebarton Road and Susan Street.

To minimise disturbance to peak hour traffic, the works will be undertaken during school holidays from 7pm Friday 13 April to 6am Monday 30 April, weather permitting. Most activities will be undertaken as day works, seven days a week, however intermittent night works may also be required.

Key activities

  • Removal of existing road pavement, laying new pavement, asphalting and line marking

An excavator, profiler, compaction equipment, asphalt paver, rock breaker (intermittent only) trucks and vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise and vibration can be expected during these works, however, the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic arrangements  

From 7pm Friday 13 April to 6am Monday 16 April:

  • South Road will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction. Works during this time will be completed at Ashwin Parade and at Hindmarsh Avenue.
  • Hindmarsh Avenue will be temporarily closed at South Road during these works. Access to South Road will be via Gawler Avenue.

From 6am Monday 16 April to 7pm Friday, 20 April 2018:

  • South Road will be temporarily reduced to two lanes northbound and one lane southbound to complete works on and either side of Taylor Bridge.
  • Hindmarsh Avenue will be temporarily closed at South Road during these works. Access to South Road will be via Gawler Avenue.

From 7pm Friday, 20 April to 6am Monday, 30 April 2018:

  • South Road will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction from Hindmarsh Avenue to Ashwin Parade.
  • Adam Street will be temporarily closed at South Road during these works. Access to South Road will be via Manton Street or Susan Street.
  • Traffic delays can be expected on South Road.
  • Speed restrictions will apply in the vicinity of the works.
  • Signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions, alternative routes for light and heavy  vehicles and local detours will be in place.

Access to properties

  • It is business as usual for businesses on South Road and adjacent side streets.
  • Alternative customer access arrangements will be in place for businesses where required. Signage will be in place to direct motorists.
  • Businesses and residents will be notified in advance of any works that will have a direct impact, such as temporary driveway restrictions.

Cyclists and Pedestrians

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained across South Road at the signalised intersection at Ashwin Parade / West Thebarton Road and at the Linear Park Trail under South Road near Taylor Bridge (bridge across the River Torrens).
  • A footpath on either side of South Road will remain open at all times.
  • Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to the available footpath.
  • Cyclists should follow the detour routes for motorists or dismount and use the available pedestrian routes and crossings.

Bus users – Routes numbers B10, B10C and B12

  • Inbound and outbound bus routes will remain unchanged.
  • Bus stop 9 on the east side of South Road will remain temporarily closed. Bus stop 9 on the west side of South Road will be temporarily closed. Passengers will be directed to use bus stop 10 or bus stop 8.
  • Signage will be in place to direct passengers to the nearest available bus stops.
