UPCOMING WEEKEND AND NIGHT WORKS ON SOUTH ROAD BETWEEN TORRENS ROAD AND FORSTER STREET, RIDLEYTON – 24-28 NOVEMBER 2017

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking major pavement works in the southbound lanes of South Road between Torrens Road and Forster Street, Ridleyton.

To minimise disturbance to peak hour traffic, the works will be undertaken from 8pm Friday 24 November to 6am Monday 27 November 2017, weather permitting.  Additional minor works will also be undertaken from 7pm Monday 27 November to 6am Tuesday 28 November 2017 to remove core samples from the asphalt for testing.  

Key activities        

  • Removal of existing road pavement
  • Laying new pavement, asphalting and line marking
  • Profiling of road surface between Hawker Street and Forster Street.

Equipment

Profilers, compaction equipment, paver, rock breaker, road saw, mobile crane, line-marking equipment, trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise and vibration can be expected during these works, however, the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic management

From 8pm Friday 24 November to 6am Monday 27 November 2017:

  • South Road will be temporarily closed to southbound traffic between Torrens Road and Forster Street.
  • South Road northbound will remain open.
  • Left and right turns from South Road on to Torrens Road will be maintained.
  • Left and right turns from Torrens Road on to South Road southbound and the u-turn facility at the intersection of South Road and Torrens Road will only be available to traffic accessing McDonalds and On The Run.
  • Hawker Street will be temporarily closed at South Road.
  • Local detours will be in place. Please click here to view the local access routes.
  • Paget Street, Hythe Street and Monmouth Street will be intermittently closed at South Road, access will remain open for South Road businesses and residents only
  • Traffic delays can be expected on South Road and Torrens Road.
  • Signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions, for alternative routes for light vehicles please click here and for heavy vehicles please click here and for local detours please click here.

Access to local businesses

  • Businesses in the area will remain open. Please support your local businesses
  • Signage will be in place to direct motorists to local businesses
  • Left and right turns from Torrens Road on to South Road southbound and the u-turn facility at the intersection of South Road and Torrens Road will only be available to traffic accessing McDonalds and On The Run.
  • Access to Croydon Shopping Centre and BWS will be available via Hawker Street.

Pedestrians and cyclists

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained under the direction of traffic controllers
  • Cyclists should follow detour routes for motorists or dismount and use the available pedestrian access/crossings.

 Bus users – Route numbers 251, 252, 253, 254 and N254

  • Outbound buses will be detoured via Wright Street to Torrens Road
  • Inbound buses will be detoured via Blight Street from Torrens Road
  • Bus Stop 14 (inbound and outbound) on Hawker Street, near Wright Street, will be temporarily closed
  • Bus Stop 15 on South Road (inbound and outbound) between Bedford Street and Dartmouth St, will be temporarily closed
  • Signage will be in place at these bus stops to direct passengers to the nearest available bus stop
