UPCOMING TRAFFIC SWITCHES – SOUTH ROAD INTERSECTION WITH GRANGE ROAD/MANTON STREET AND PORT ROAD APRIL 2016

In April 2016, road works will be undertaken at the South Road intersection with Grange Road/Manton Street, and at the South Road intersection with Port Road, to switch traffic onto the new northbound surface road alignment between Hindmarsh Avenue, West Hindmarsh and Euston Terrace, Croydon. The traffic will be redirected to allow for the construction of the first two bridges on the T2T project at Grange Road and Port Road – marking a major milestone. The traffic switch will be undertaken in three stages. The three stages will include the following:

Stage 1

Scheduled for 8–10 April 2016

  • New northbound carriageway will be opened on South Road between Hindmarsh Avenue and Bond Street
  • A temporary roundabout controlled by traffic signals will be installed at the South Road intersection with Grange Road/ Manton Street

To undertake the Stage 1 road works, Grange Road and Manton Street will be temporarily CLOSED to traffic at the South Road intersection from 7pm Friday 8 April to 6am Monday 11 April 2016.

Stage 2

Scheduled for 27 April 2016

  • Signalised u-turn facilities will be installed on Port Road at Queen Street and Coglin Street
  • Right turns from South Road into Port Road will be banned and motorists will need to use the new u-turn facilities on Port Road
  • The South Road intersection with Port Road will continue to operate as a signalised intersection for through traffic in all directions

Stage 3

Scheduled for 7-8 May 2016

  • The South Road intersection with Port Road will be re-aligned to allow for the Port Road bridge construction
  • A new South Road carriageway between Port Road and the rail line at Euston Terrace will be in place between Port Road and the Outer Harbor rail line

When stage 2 and stage 3 of the traffic switch occurs Port Road and South Road will remain OPEN to road users in a temporary traffic configuration when the works take place over two consecutive weekends. Access to businesses will be maintained.
