UPCOMING NIGHT AND WEEKEND WORKS AT THE SOUTH ROAD INTERSECTION WITH GRANGE ROAD AND MANTON STREET, WITH TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES – 23 – 26 FEBRUARY 2018

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking major pavement and asphalt works at the South Road intersection with Grange Road and Manton Street.

To minimise disturbance to peak hour traffic, the works will be undertaken from 7pm Friday 23 February to 6am Monday 26 February 2018, weather permitting.

Key activities

  • Removal of existing road pavement
  • Laying new pavement, asphalting and line marking

An excavator, profiler, compaction equipment, asphalt paver, rock breaker (intermittent only) trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise and vibration can be expected during these works, however, the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic arrangements  

From 7pm Friday 23 February to 6am Monday 26 February 2018:

  • Grange Road and Manton Street will be temporarily closed to through traffic at the intersection with South Road (in both east and west directions).
  • One lane will be maintained on South Road to northbound traffic, between Gawler Avenue and Port Road.
  • One lane will be maintained on South Road to southbound traffic, between Port Road and Adam Street.
  • Right turns from South Road (westbound) on to Grange Road and from Grange Road (southbound) on to South Road will be temporarily closed.
  • Left turns in and out of Grange Road at South Road will be maintained.
  • Right turns from South Road on to Manton Street and from Manton Street on to South Road will be temporarily closed.
  • The u-turn facility which allows northbound traffic on South Road to head back south on South Road, will be temporarily closed.
  • Left turns in and out of Manton Street at South Road will be maintained.
  • A temporary u-turn facility will be available at Susan Street for southbound traffic on South Road to travel

  • Traffic delays on South Road, Grange Road and Manton Street can be expected.

Access to properties

  • It is business as usual for businesses on Grange Road, South Road and adjacent side streets.
  • Alternative customer access arrangements will be in place for businesses where required. Signage will be in place to direct motorists.

Cyclists and Pedestrians

  • Pedestrians will not be permitted to cross South Road at Grange Road and Manton Street during these works. Pedestrians will be directed to Port Road to cross South Road at the traffic signalised intersection.
  • Pedestrian access across Grange Road and Manton Street at the South Road intersection will be maintained with traffic controller assistance.
  • Cyclists should follow the detour routes for motorists or dismount and use the available pedestrian routes and crossings.

Bus users – Routes 115, 117, 118, A018, B10, B10C, B12

From 7pm Friday 23 February to 6am Monday 26 February 2018:

  • Bus routes 115, 117, 118 and A018: Outbound buses (toward the beach) will be detoured via Port Road and Welland Avenue on to Grange Road. Inbound buses (toward the city) will be detoured via South Road, the  u-turn facility on Port Road at Queen Street and South Road on to Manton Street.
  • Bus routes B10, B10C and B12: Outbound buses via South Road and Grange Road (toward the beach) remain unchanged. Inbound buses (toward the city) will be detoured via South Road, the u-turn facility on Port Road at Queen Street and on to South Road.
  • Bus stops 12 and 13 on the south side of Grange Road between South Road and Welland Avenue will be temporarily closed.
  • Bus stops 6 and 7 on the south side of Manton Street between South Road and Adam Street will be temporarily closed.
  • Signage will be in place at these bus stops to direct passengers to the nearest available bus stop.
