UPCOMING NIGHT AND WEEKEND WORKS AROUND THE PORT ROAD AND SOUTH ROAD INTERSECTION – MARCH – APRIL 2016

Over the next 4 – 6 weeks, there will be an intense period of work activities completing service relocations around the Port Road and South Road intersection and along both sides of Port Road, between Anne Street, Hindmarsh and King Street, Croydon.

During this period, water mains, stormwater pipes and traffic signal conduits and pits will be installed in preparation for the traffic switch onto the new, South Road northbound surface road between Hindmarsh Avenue, West Hindmarsh and Port Road, West Hindmarsh. Once completed and the traffic switch in place, building of the Port Road bridge will commence.

To ensure these critical activities are completed on schedule, there will be a rolling program of night and weekend works and multiple crews working in and round the Port Road and South Road intersection in different locations.

Key activities between Friday 4 March, 2016 and Friday 11 March, 2016 include:

Stormwater pipe installation – from 7pm Friday 4 March, 2016 to 6am Monday 7 March, 2016

Where:

  • Port Road and South Road intersection, near Hope Inn, Hindmarsh
  • Port Road (city bound), between Queen Street, Croydon and South Road, Hindmarsh

Water main installation – 7pm to 6am daily, from Monday 7 March, 2016 to Friday 11 March, 2016

Where:

  • Port Road, between South Road and Coglin Street, Hindmarsh
  • Port Road and South Road intersection (near Hope Inn), Hindmarsh
  • Port Road (outbound), between South Road, Hindmarsh and Albermarle Street, West Hindmarsh

Conduit and pit installation7pm to 6am on Wednesday 9 March, 2016 and Thursday 10 March, 2016

Where:

  • Port Road (city bound) between Queen Street, Croydon and South Road, Hindmarsh

Type of Activities and Equipment:

Pavement cutting, trenching works, installation of water mains and stormwater pipes, conduits and pits, backfilling, reinstatement and asphalting works will be undertaken to complete these works.

Various machinery will be used to perform these works including road saw, excavator, loaders, cranes, vacuum truck, bobcat, compacting equipment, crane and light vehicles. Lighting towers will also be in operation.

Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents as much as possible.

Traffic Management

  • Some temporary lane closures on both side of Port Road and the Port Road and South Road intersection will be in place at different times
  • Speed restrictions will apply while works are in progress
  • Signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions.
