UPDATE: NIGHT AND WEEKEND WORKS AT THE SOUTH ROAD INTERSECTION WITH HAWKER STREET AND AT THE BEDFORD STREET JUNCTION WITH SOUTH ROAD, RIDLEYTON

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking bridge works and service relocations at the South Road intersection with Hawker Street and at the Bedford Street junction with South Road, Ridleyton.

Due to recent wet weather, service relocation works at Bedford Street were not completed in the timing previously advised and the Bedford Street u-turn facility will remain temporarily closed until 6am Monday 24 July 2017.

From 7pm Friday 21 July to 6am Monday 24 July 2017:

  • Hawker Street will be temporarily closed at South Road.
  • Northbound traffic will not be permitted to use the u-turn facility at Bedford Street to head south and motorists will be detoured via the Tait Street u-turn facility.
  • The u-turn facility at Dartmouth Street will be maintained.
  • Speed restrictions on South Road will apply and signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained under the direction of traffic controllers.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to follow traffic signage and the direction of traffic controllers at all times.

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking bridge works and service relocations over two weekends at the South Road intersection with Hawker Street, Ridleyton.

To minimise disruption to peak hour traffic, the works will be undertaken from:

  • 7pm Friday 21 July to 6am Monday 24 July 2017
  • 7pm Friday 28 July to 6am Monday 31 July 2017

Key activities

  • Bridge piling and construction works
  • Service relocations

A vacuum truck, road saw, bobcat, excavator, compaction equipment, rock breaker, grader, mobile cranes, welding equipment, trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise can be expected, however the works will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic arrangements

During these works the following traffic arrangements will be in place:

  • Hawker Street will be temporarily closed at South Road.
  • Northbound traffic will not be permitted to use the u-turn facility at Bedford Street to head south and motorists will be detoured via the Tait Street u-turn facility.
  • The u-turn facility at Dartmouth Street will be temporarily closed. A temporary u-turn facility will be available at Bedford Street for southbound traffic to head north.
  • Speed restrictions on South Road will apply.
  • Temporary local detour routes will be in place and signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions. Click here to view the local detour routes.
  • Pedestrian access will be closed at the intersection of Hawker Street and South Road, pedestrian access via Cedar Avenue pedestrian crossing or Torrens Road. Click here to view the pedestrian access routes.
  • Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to follow traffic signage and the direction of traffic controllers at all times.

Bus users – Route numbers 251, 252, 253, 254 and N254

  • Outbound buses will be detoured via Wright Street to Torrens Road.
  • Inbound buses will be detoured via Blight Street from Torrens Road.
  • Bus Stop 14 (inbound and outbound) on Hawker Street, near Wright Street, will be temporarily closed.
  • Bus Stop 15 on South Road (inbound and outbound) between Bedford Street and Dartmouth Street, will be temporarily closed.
  • Signage will be in place at these bus stops to direct passengers to the nearest available bus stop.
