NIGHT AND WEEKEND WORKS – TEMPORARY CLOSURES SOUTH ROAD AND PORT ROAD – 6 – 9 SEPTEMBER 2018

As part of the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking:

  • Major pavement works at the South Road intersection with Port Road, and on Port Road between Queen Street and Coglin Street.
  • Gantry installation in southbound lanes of South Road between Hawker Street and Port Road.

To minimise disruption to peak hour traffic, and weather permitting, these works will be undertaken:

  • From 9pm, Thursday, 6 September, to 6am, Friday 7, September at the South Road intersection with Port Road.
  • From 7pm, Friday, 7 September, to 9am, Saturday, 8 September, in the westbound lanes of Port Road between Coglin Street and Queen Street.
  • From 7pm, Saturday, 8 September, to noon, Sunday, 9 September, in the city bound lanes of Port Road between Queen Street and Coglin Street.
  • From 9pm, Saturday, 8 September, to 6am, Sunday, 9 September in the southbound lanes of South Road between Hawker Street and Port Road.

Speed and lane restrictions will also apply on Port Road between Queen Street and Coglin Street from 7pm, Friday, 7 September, to 6am, Monday, 10 September.

Key activities

  • Laying new pavement, asphalting and line-marking.
  • Gantry installation.

An asphalt paver, grader, compaction equipment, crane, hydraulic wrench, trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise can be expected, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic arrangements

9pm, Thursday, 6 September, to 6am, Friday, 7 September

  • The South Road intersection with Port Road will be temporarily closed to traffic on both South Road and Port Road.

7pm, Friday, 7 September, to 9am, Saturday, 8 September

  • The westbound lanes of Port Road will be temporarily closed between George Street, Hindmarsh and Bourn Avenue, West Hindmarsh.
  • The city bound lanes of Port Road will remain open to through traffic and to traffic turning right and left onto South Road.
  • One lane on South Road will remain open in each direction through the Port Road intersection.

7pm, Saturday, 8 September, to noon, Sunday, 9 September

  • The city bound lanes of Port Road will be temporarily closed between Queen Street, Croydon and Coglin Street, Hindmarsh.
  • The westbound lanes of Port Road will remain open including the right turn onto South Road northbound.

9pm, Saturday, 8 September, to 6am, Sunday, 9 September

  • The southbound lanes of South Road will be temporarily closed between Hawker Street and Port Road.
  • The northbound lanes of South Road will remain open, with one lane open through the Port Road intersection.

Local access

  • It is business as usual for businesses on Port Road and South Road and adjacent side streets.
  • Some local roads adjoining Port Road and signalised u-turn facilities in the Port Road median will be temporarily closed. Traffic will be redirected via local detour routes and signage will be in place to direct motorists to local businesses.
  • Businesses and residents will be notified in advance of any works that will have a direct impact, such as temporary driveway restrictions.

Alternative Access

Cyclists and pedestrians

  • Pedestrian access across Port Road and South Road will be affected during these works.
  • Signage will be in place and traffic controllers will be available to direct pedestrians to the nearest pedestrian crossing.
  • Cyclists should follow the detour routes for motorists or dismount and use the available pedestrian routes and crossings.

Bus users

  • Some bus routes will be affected and temporary closures of bus stops will occur.
