NIGHT AND WEEKEND WORKS – TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SOUTH ROAD NORTHBOUND- 7PM FRIDAY 5 OCTOBER- 6AM MONDAY 8 OCTOBER 2018

As part f the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, the T2T Alliance will be undertaking finishing works on the northbound lanes of South Road between Royce Avenue, Croydon Park and Ashwin Parade, Torrensville.

To facilitate these works the northbound lanes of South Road will be temporarily closed to traffic between Regency Road, Croydon Park and Ashwin Parade, Torrensville.

To minimise disruption to peak hour traffic, and weather permitting, these works will be undertaken from 7pm Friday 5 October to 6am Monday 8 October.

Note: finishing works on the southbound lanes of South Road will be undertaken the following weekend from 7pm Friday 12 October to 6am Monday 15 October.

Key activities

  • Laying new pavement, asphalting and line-marking.

An asphalt paver, grader, compaction equipment, crane, hydraulic wrench, trucks and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Some noise can be expected, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents and businesses as much as possible.

Temporary traffic arrangements

7pm Friday 5 October to 6am Monday 8 October

  • The northbound lanes of South Road will be temporarily closed to traffic between Regency Road, Croydon Park and Ashwin Parade, Torrensville.
  • The southbound lanes of South Road will remain open.
  • The South Road intersection with Port Road will remain open.
  • Left turns from Hawker Street on to the southbound lanes of South Road will remain open. Right turns from Hawker Street on to South Road will be temporarily closed.
  • Pym Street will be temporarily closed at the South Road intersection.

7pm Friday 5 October to 3pm Saturday 6 October

  • City bound and westbound movements will remain open at the South Road intersections with Grange Road/Manton Street and Torrens Road.

3pm Saturday 6 October and 6am Monday 8 October

  • The South Road intersections with Grange Road/Manton Street and Torrens Road will be temporarily closed to city bound and westbound traffic.

Local access

  • It is business as usual for businesses on South Road and adjacent side streets.
  • All local roads on the western side of South Road between Royce Avenue and Ashwin Parade will be temporarily closed at South Road. Traffic will be redirected via local detour routes and signage will be in place to direct motorists to local businesses.
  • Businesses and residents will be notified in advance of any works that will have a direct impact, such as temporary driveway restrictions.

Cyclists and pedestrians

  • Pedestrian access across South Road will be maintained at Port Road.
  • Pedestrian access across South Road will be maintained at Grange Road/Manton Street, Hawker Street, Torrens Road and Pym Street. Between 3pm Saturday 6 October and 6am Monday 8 October traffic controller assistance will be provided when the works are occurring in the intersection.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at the Cedar Avenue pedestrian bridge and the Outer Harbor shared use path over South Road.
  • Cyclists should follow the detour routes for motorists or dismount and use the available pedestrian routes and crossings.

The following bus routes will be affected with detours and temporary closures of some bus stops along these routes:

115, 117, 118, 230, 232, 251, 253, 254, B10
