T2T Alliance is advising of upcoming night works at Grange Road, Port Road, Hawker Street and Torrens Road bridges over the South Road lowered motorway. These works are to install anti-throw screens as part of the State Government’s commitment to improving safety along the transport network.

Installation of the anti-throw screens on the road bridges will take place in three stages, starting with the installation of bolts. Future stages involve installation of supporting posts and screens. Advance notice of future stages will be provided.

To minimise disturbance to peak hour traffic, and weather permitting, these works will be undertaken each night over two consecutive weeks between 7pm and 6am Sunday 7 July to Thursday 18 July, finishing 6am, noting no works will occur on Friday or Saturday nights.

Stage 1 key activity – Fixing bolts to the bridge structures.

A small crane, hand drills powered by a small generator and light vehicles will be used to perform these works. Lighting towers will also be in operation during night works.

Works will be undertaken simultaneously on the Grange Road and Port Road bridges progressing in a northerly direction to complete works on the Hawker Street and Torrens Road bridges.

Traffic management

Motorists traveling on the North-South Motorway may be detoured to the South Road surface roads where speed and lane restrictions will apply.

Lane and speed restrictions will apply on the road bridges in the vicinity of the works and advance signage via the new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) message boards will alert road users to changes in traffic conditions.

Signage will be in place to safely detour pedestrians and cyclists around the work sites.

Works will be managed to minimise disturbance to local residents however some minor noise can be expected.
