  • South Road intersection with Port Road, Hindmarsh.
  • South Road, between Paget Street, Ridleyton and Port Road, Hindmarsh.
  • Grange Road intersection with South Road, Hindmarsh.

The works include:

  • installation of temporary concrete traffic barriers on Port Road on Monday 4 January 2016, during the night.
  • service relocations, including water, sewer, gas and stormwater on Port Road between Anne Street and King Street, and South Road between Paget Street and Port Road commencing Tuesday 5 January, 2016 during the day, night and weekends.

Service relocation works at Port Road and at the Port Road and South Road intersection are expected to be complete by late March 2016, with construction of the new Port Road and Grange Road bridges commencing in early April 2016.

Type of Activities and Machinery

Key activities include: excavation of services trenches, stormwater pipe installation, water main connections, sewer and gas service relocations and pavement reinstatement.

Various types of machinery will be used, including excavators, directional drill, asphalt pavers, rollers, piling rig, crawler crane trucks and light vehicles. Lighting towers will also be in operation for night works.

Traffic Management

There will be temporary lane closures and speed restrictions along Port Road and South Road and intermittent local road closures in and around South Road, north of Port Road up to Torrens Road.

  • Single lane closures (median lane) on Port Road between Anne Street, Hindmarsh and King Street, Croydon, in both directions, will be temporarily CLOSED from Monday 4 January, 2016 to Sunday 31 January, 2016
  • All traffic lanes on Torrens Road, Grange Road and Manton Street will be maintained during peak periods and will provide an alternative travel route for east-west traffic when lane closures on Port Road are in place during January 2016.
  • The Rose Street median will be permanently CLOSED from Monday 4 January 2016.

Current parking arrangements in the Port Road median will change.

The following car parks will remain OPEN:

  • east of Coglin Street, Hindmarsh
  • west of Queen Street, Croydon

The following car parks will CLOSE from Monday 4 January 2016 until mid-2017 (approximately).

  • between Coglin Street and South Road, Hindmarsh
  • between South Road and Queen Street, Croydon

City bound on-street parking along Port Road between Queen Street, Croydon and Anne Street, Hindmarsh will be restricted at all times. Generally, all other on-street car parking will be maintained during peak periods where possible.

Access to businesses and residential properties will be maintained and works will be managed to minimise disturbance to the local community as much as possible.

Signage will be installed to alert motorists to changed traffic conditions. We encourage motorists to follow all directional signage, travel safely through the work area and obey the designated speed limit.

Electronic travel time message boards located on Port Road and South Road will alert motorists to traffic delays.

Pedestrian and Cyclist Access

  • The Outer Harbor Greenway will have a temporary detour in place from Monday 4 January 2016 until late March 2016. The detour will be sign posted.
  • Bicycle lanes will be maintained where possible. In some instances, cyclists may be required to share a traffic lane on Port Road. Signage will be in place to alert cyclists to changed traffic conditions.

Bus Stops

  • Some short term bus stop closures may be required. Advanced notification will be provided at these locations advising of alternative bus stops. Any changes will be undertaken in consultation with the bus service providers.
  • No changes to bus routes are anticipated.

Christmas / New Year Holiday Arrangements
